    The use of grammar translation method in teaching English

    This study aims to describe the patterns of Grammar Translation Method (GTM) and to know the reasons why the teachers used the method. Descriptive qualitative method was applied. The subjects were two English teachers at the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 1 Palangka Raya. It was used observation and questionnaires to collect the data. The data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing were applied for data analysis. The findings show nine major patterns of GTM applied: (1) The classes were taught mainly in mother tongue; (2) the vocabulary was taught in the form of lists of isolated words; (3) the grammar provided the rules for putting words together; (4) it focused on the form and inflection of words; (5) the reading difficult classical texts were begun early; (6) it was little attention to the content of the texts; (7) the drills were exercises in translating; (8) it was little attention to pronunciation; and (9) it focused on accuracy. Meanwhile, the reasons of the teachers used the method are: (1) It is suitable for the students; (2) it helps the students comprehend the text; (3) it  improves the vacabulary; and (4) by using this method teaching-learning activities work well

    Audio Visual Learning Application of Dayak Ngaju Language - English

    This study aims to develop an audiovisual learning application for Dayak Ngaju language - English that can be accessed by elementary school-aged children through a web page and smartphone. This application was developed based on the writers’ previous study entitled: Web-based Picture Dictionary of Dayak Ngaju language – English. The applied research model was used to adopt techniques in the Agile model using Extreme Programming which consists of planning, design, coding, and testing. To obtain the data needed in this application development, the writers used data collection methods in the form of direct observation, interviews, and library research. The study was conducted at SDN Percobaan Palangka Raya, Jl. Damang Leman No.37. The result of the study was an audiovisual learning application based on mobile web for elementary school level which can be accessed through both personal computers and smartphones. The nouns display on this application are related to parts of the body, things in the classroom, things in the kitchen, food and drink, and means of transportation. The students can learn two languages by looking at the available pictures and listening to the pronunciation. Since it is equipped with real pictures (visual) and sound (audio)

    Artikel ini adalah tentang keberadaan pramuwisata ilegal di Bali. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk membahas kesenjangan antara das solen dan das sein, yaitu adanya kesenjangan antara peraturan dengan kenyataan atau dengan fakta hukum, dan adanya situasi ketidaktahuan yang dipelajari untuk memenuhi kepuasan akademik, terutama mengenai pramuwisata ilegal di Bali. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian hukum empiris, yang merupakan pendekatan masalah dengan memeriksa masalah-masalah yang muncul dalam kenyataan di lapangan dan kemudian dihubungkan dengan regulasi hukum dan teori-teori hukum yang ada. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa ada pelanggaran kode etik pariwisata seperti pramuwisata yang tidak memiliki kartu identitas pramuwisata, tidak memiliki sertifikat pengetahuan budaya Bali, dan warga negara asing menjadi pramuwisata yang tidak sesuai dengan peruntukkan visa. Ini karena faktor ekonomi, anggapan bahwa keterampilan lebih penting daripada pendidikan atau pelatihan pariwisata, tidak tahu birokrasi pengurusan KTTP, masih ada kekurangan pramuwisata lokal yang bisa berbahasa Mandarin dan Rusia, dan sanksi yang kurang ketat. Sebagai saran, ada kebutuhan untuk sosialisasi, pelatihan intensif, membentuk tim khusus untuk memberantas warga negara asing yang bekerja sebagai pramuwisata ilegal dengan melibatkan para pemangku kepentingan yang relevan, dan perlu sanksi tegas

    This research was purposes to create an application, namely Online Reading Application SI.BY.RU. This application is expected can help and ease the English teachers and English learners to deepen their reading comprehension skill. The research design implemented  is research and development while as the main goal was prototype development. This application was developed by using CMS (content management system) WordPress. The final result of the research is an Online Reading Application SI.BY.RU that has been tested by the expert by using blackbox testing method. over all, the blackbox testing result stated that this application is valid without any revision.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat aplikasi yang diberi nama Online Reading Application SI.BY.RU. Aplikasi ini diharapkan dapat membantu dan mempermudah para pengajar dan para pembelajar bahasa Inggris untuk memperdalam kemampuan reading comprehension. Jenis penelitian yang dilakukan adalah research and development dengan pengembangan prototype aplikasi sebagai tujuan akhirnya. Aplikasi ini dikembangkan berbasis web dengan menggunakan CMS (content management system) WordPress.     The implementation of online-based applications is deemed necessary to assist teachers as one of the supporting applications in e-learning. Based on the results of interview, observation, and implementation of community service activity carried out by Lecturers of STMIK Palangka Raya was very enthusiastically welcomed by the teachers at Miftahul Jannah Schools Palangka Raya. The application applied in the activity was Zoom. The implementation of  this application is one of the teachers’ efforts  in their professionalism to improve the quality of learning. The assistance in using the Zoom application in this service activity aims to increase teachers understanding in using it as a means of teaching and learning. The methods used in community service activity were practice, lectures, and demonstrations. These methods used to reduce the obstacles which have been problem for teachers in using application for teaching online. As the result, from the carried out activity, the participants, teachers, can apply the Zoom application starting from downloading, installing, and  accessing it

      This study aims to see how the use of the internet and the problem in teaching faced by English teachers of SMK Negeri 1 Palangka Raya. This study is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. There were 6 (six) English teachers taken as the subject of the study.  In collecting data, the writer used direct observation, questionnaries, and documentation. The data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing applied for data analysis. The findings show most of the English teachers have been familiar with internet as a media and its function. They agreed that existance of  internet technology is very helpful in teaching process and hardly needed to support teaching learning activities especially English language subject. Meanwhile, the problem faced by the teachers is the internet technology has not been used (secara maksimal) as the teaching media. Lack of maximum use of computer laboratory and networks to be used by all teacher and students’ activities is a major obstacle in terms of utilization of this technology. &nbsp
